Valentine’s Day is a day full of candy hearts, red roses, cards and sometimes even surprises from those who love you. But the best part of Valentine’s Day is the special date with the one you love the most. This year make another commitment to keep your hearts healthy during this special day and for the years to come. Here are some date ideas:
Enjoy a healthy home-cooked dinner: The American Heart Association’s Pinterest page (http://pinterest.com/americanheart/) has tons of healthy recipes you can make for or with your loved one. You can try making grilled lemon chicken, shrimp pinwheels or just enjoy finger food such as heart shaped apple slices, bell pepper bites.
Couples Run: Start the morning off by taking a run with your special someone and taking a route you haven’t gone before, maybe on the beach, through a park, or just a place that is special to you both.
Winter Outdoor Date: Why not enjoy the fresh powder outside? Take your special someone skiing, snowshoeing, sledding or cross country skiing. If you don’t know how, this is a great opportunity to learn something new and burn some calories!
Take a Dance Class: Try something new! Find a local dance studio to take lessons in ballroom dancing, salsa, jazz… anything that peeks your interest. If you have a song, swoop your loved one off their feet and dance.
Go Bowling: If you haven’t been to the lanes in awhile, visit your local bowling alley and bowl a few rounds. As each person takes a new turn, ask a unique question to keep learning more about each other.
Wine and chocolate: You can never go wrong with this combination on Valentine’s Day. In the right quantities red wine and dark chocolate can be good for your heart and prevent heart disease.
Most importantly, don’t let Valentine’s Day be the only day you use these heart healthy date ideas! Even married couples should continue to date each other. Take this Valentine’s Day to keep the spark going and continue to take care of your heart!
