AHA volunteer rings in awareness at Nasdaq

Just ahead of National Wear Red Day, the American Heart Association signaled its investment in heart health with a volunteer ringing the closing Nasdaq bell Thursday.
National Wear Red Day is the first Friday in February, when the AHA encourages people to wear red to raise awareness that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women. The event is part of American Heart Month, which urges making healthy lifestyle changes to live longer. Globally heart disease causes more than 17 million deaths each year.
“Eighty percent of cardiovascular disease may be prevented with education and lifestyle changes,” Janice Hall, a Go Red For Women volunteer who’s also senior vice president of global sales capabilities with the Estée Lauder Companies, told the crowd at the Nasdaq MarketSite in Times Square.
