Eating chocolate on a daily basis may improve insulin levels and liver enzymes in adults, according to a study presented at the American Heart Association’s Epidemiology/Lifestyle 2016 Scientific Sessions.
Researchers studied 1,153 adults, ages 18 to 69 years between 2007 and 2009. Of all the participants, 81.8 percent were classified as chocolate consumers.
They found that consuming 100 mg of chocolate daily was associated with lower levels of insulin resistance, serum insulin and liver enzymes, markers associated with heart disease risk.
Chocolate consumers were more likely to be younger, physically active, affluent people, who had higher education levels and fewer chronic health issues.
100 mg of chocolate is a very small amount. A Godiva chocolate bar is 100 grams or 100,000 mg. In other words, according to the amount of chocolate in the article, That one Godiva chocolate bar would be enough to eat daily for about 3 years to get the associated health benefits. I’m fairly certain the person reporting this is a bit confused about mass and is misquoting the study.

Before we all go on a chocolate binge, keep in mind that 100 mg is a TINY amount…. about .02 of a teaspoon!
I guess it’s a typo, and meant grams. The actual abstract reads “Chocolate consumption in g/day was obtained […]”.
If you purchase dark chocolate nibs, a small handful of these and pumpkin seeds are a great snack. Again, portion is everything. You don’t need much, but it is a great health benefit.
It’s really Great idea for the Chocoholics to continue with their habit, thanks to the new research about chocolate.

100 mg is about equal to 1/3,000th of an ounce.
I have previously worked out that in my lifetime I have eaten somewhere over two TONS of chocolate… close to 5,000 pounds, or about 80,000 ounces.
I’ve eaten enough for forty million days, which translates to… hmm… just about 110,000 years.
Guess I’ll have to put off buying my burial plot for a while.

::sigh:: Chocolate may be good for my heart, but it hasn’t helped my brain… :>
Looks like I’ll only be around to bother folks for about 62,000 years, not 110,000.
I’m actually somewhat relieved. Even *I* might have gotten a bit bored with chocolate after the first 500 or so centuries.
– MJM, who’ll now go back to puzzling out 2+2 = ?
